National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) research demonstrates image quality directly impacts identification match accuracy.  By deploying the highest quality sensors on the most reliable platforms, we reduce the potential for missed identification/verification of a subject, additional secondary workload processes, and overall fingerprint examiner workload.

FAP 45 certification = confidence

AMREL’s biometric solutions use SherlockTM, the world’s thinnest, lightest weight, certified fingerprint scanner. This industry leading rugged sensor has been certified by the FBI to generate high-quality FAP-45 (Appendix F) and PIV compliant Electronic Fingerprint Templates (EFT). Not only does this save you time by reducing errors and the necessity for repeat operations, it allows access to greatest variety of databases, including the national Integrated Automated Fingerprint Information System (IAFIS).

Harsh lighting, uncontrolled environments, dust, and rain are facts of life for public safety officers, relief workers, and warfighters. They can count on AMREL’s biometric solutions to operate even in the most extreme environments.

A tough biometric solution needs a tough sensor

AMREL wanted a sensor that was as rugged as our computer platforms. Sherlock’s IP65-rated Light Emitting Sensor (LES) was a perfect match for our durable mobile solutions.  Sherlock’s LES multilayer, polymer composite film resists abrasion, operates at extreme temperatures, and isn’t affected by fog or condensation. Unlike traditional optical sensors, direct and bright sunlight do not diminish its ability to capture high quality fingerprint images. Furthermore, the LES sensor is less sensitive than old-fashion systems to oils left behind from previous users; other sensors need to be cleaned after each capture.

Get it right the first time

Dirt and humidity can be major obstacles to capturing fingerprints. Not for Sherlock. Its LES system uses adaptive circuitry and dynamic capture algorithms to automatically optimize for wet or dirty fingers. Furthermore, special optical bonding reduces glare, reflection, and distortion. The system captures a clear, full, and consistent high quality image even under the most challenging conditions.

Spoof resistant

Traditional optical sensors capture images through reading surface topography, which enable criminals to “spoof” (fool) them with fake silicon “gummy” fingers.  AMREL’s biometric fingerprint solutions use sensors that rely on human skin to activate luminescence, which means fake “gummy” fingers cannot be “seen” and no image will be collected.

Multimodal systems increase security

Biometrics include a wide variety of modalities, including fingerprinting, iris recognition and facial capture. Using more than one modality reduces the problems of noisy data, “spoof” attacks and unacceptable error rates. By deploying multimodal biometric systems, AMREL mobile solutions increase accuracy, reduce criminal access, and save time.

Multiple finger enrollments

Experts strongly recommended enrolling more than one finger. Minor injuries and temporary disabilities can compromise the usability of captured images of a single finger. AMREL’s robust sized sensor system makes it easy with dual finger capture & rolls capabilities.
