LOS ANGELES, Oct. 11, 2018 — An exceptionally versatile mobile device is now available from AMREL, the world’s premier rugged computer manufacturer. Infinitely customizable, this rugged, lightweight 8” Android tablet enables anyone to economically create highly specific detailed configurations.
AMREL announced that it is launching two new lines of rugged mobile network communication equipment: HalfRack 19” and FullRack 19”.
“AMREL is mostly known for its mobile rugged computing solutions,” explains Kalvin Chen, AMREL’s Vice President of Operations. “Our tablets, laptops and handhelds have been used for over 30 years by warfighters around the world.
“Working with multiple rugged mobile IT equipment suppliers can be a challenge for our clients. To simplify procurement and technical hurdles in development and system integration, we have greatly expanded our offerings. Our goal is to provide one-stop convenience by supplying an unusually extensive line of rugged mobile network communication equipment.”
Equipment in AMREL’s HalfRack 19” line are fully rugged and fully functional, but only ¼ the size of normal rack-mounted devices. This compact form factor saves space, reduces heat, and decreases energy use. The HalfRack 19″ line includes switches, routers, network attached storage, VoIP, video matrix, and PDU.
AMREL is also supplying the rack-mounted, full-sized FullRack 19″ line. These fully rugged products include servers, computers, all-in-one, Cisco-based switches, routers, IP-phone, firewall, and KVM.
Both HalfRack 19” and FullRack 19” lines are designed to operate in the most challenging environments. They both fully comply with military’s ruggedness standards, including MIL-STD 810, MIL-STD 461, and MIL-STD 1275D. There is also an option for TEMPEST SDIP-27 Level A, B, or C.
In addition to the HalfRack 19” and FullRack 19” lines, AMREL is offering rack-mounted rugged displays, mini keyboards, power distribution unit, power supplies, accessories, and other peripherals.

AMREL has announced the launch of APEX PX5, a 10.1” fully rugged, sunlight readable tablet with one of the brightest and sharpest displays on the market.
“What sets the APEX PX5 apart is the crisp image quality,” explained Kalvin Chen, AMREL’s Vice President of Operations. “Its visual excellence is a result of more than the 1000 nits rating. It also has a bright backlight, anti-reflective coatings, WUXGA 1920 x 1200 resolution, and directly bonded LCD layers. The APEX PX5 is built to meet modern demands. Boasting a speedy 4th generation Intel® Haswell Core ™ i5 processor, the APEX PX5 Tablet is ideal for graphic and other data-intensive applications. Its capacitive multi-touch supports glove touch, and a digitizer option. Other options include snap-on modules for magnetic stripe reader, smart card (CAC), NFC, as well as 2D barcode. AMREL announces the release of the ROCKY DB7 — an upgrade of the smallest, lightest, fully rugged handheld that can support standard Windows 7 and Linux Operating Systems (OS).
“The big difference is the new Intel® Atom™ processor,” explains Javier Camarillo, AMREL’s Senior Application Engineer. “The DB7 is a small platform designed for big applications, which can be very data heavy. So we added a more powerful processor and doubled the memory.”
The Intel® Atom™ processor consumes very little energy, which means the lightweight DB7 can run the same OS and applications as a laptop, but with significantly longer battery life. This reduces logistical burdens for field work and eliminates the need to modify standard programming for mobile devices.
“The DB7 platform was developed in response to the military’s emphasis on networking,” explains Mr. Camarillo. “They want real-time ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) data in the hands of the warfighter. This creates a need for a handheld computer that can transmit large encrypted files, operate in harsh combat conditions, and is small enough to fit into a cargo pants pocket. Despite its small size, the ROCKY DB7 has multiple configurable I/O ports.”
The ROCKY DB7 has been independently certified to meet military standards for ruggedness, including MIL-STDs 810G and 461F. The new DB7 has had its IP rating upgraded to an exceptionally rigorous 65. It is also fully compliant to FIPS 140-2, the encryption standard.
“Even though the ROCKY DB7 was originally designed for the challenging environments faced by Dismounted Infantry and Special Operation Teams, some civilians have done amazing things with it,” stated Mr. Camarillo. “We had one research scientist drag it through miles of an underground cave system.
