I recently showed a video of Boston Dynamic’s Legged Squad Support System (LS3) to a former Marine. I pointed out that its capability of following a human was similar to the one demonstrated in a Robot Rodeo Video.
The former Marine didn’t react to the UGV’s autonomous capability. He liked the idea of a machine that helped carry the load, but he was suspicious of this application. He’s seen medium-size UGVs in action and he felt they were too noisy to use on combat patrols.
I would like to hear from developers of medium-size UGVs and other experts about the noise. Is this a problem? Send your thoughts to editor@amrel.com.
